Radiohead: In Rainbows

In: Music, radiohead

While away last week Radiohead fired the shot heard around the music world. They have decided to release their new album, In Rainbows on their website bypassing the traditional label route. In true Radiohead fashion, this is no simple cash transaction. There are two options, a box set meant for die hard fans [...]

Bjork - Oh So Quiet

In: Music, youtube

The Feist video for 1234 reminded me so much of Spike Jonze video for Bjork’s It’s Oh So Quiet that I decided to look it up and watch again. You’ve got to love YouTube and a high-speed connection.
Anyway - they both have the same vibe - but the Bjork video is more balls out [...]

Feist 1234 Video

In: Music

I love the Feist video for 1234. It’s currently being used in the iPod Nano commercial. The production of the song reminds me of Aimee Mann and her voice kind of reminds me of Bjork. I’ve been fighting off buying this cd, but I can’t resist.

One minute review: Kanye West - Graduation

In: Music

I’m stealing the one minute review from Howard.
Not loving Kanye West’s - Graduation (iTunes) on first listen. Not as creative as the first two - and it’s missing that singular, song that you need to own. It’s a shame; I’ve been looking forward to this for awhile.

New Music: Okkervil River

In: Music

Just got the Okkervil River The Stage Names and it is definitely one of the best things I’ve heard this year. I’m having a hard time comparing them to anyone, but the CD is just gorgeous - very full and epic sounding. Listen to the first song below, but seriously, buy the [...]

Aimee Mann - “31 Today”

In: Aimee Mann, Music

Thank Howard at the Web Pen Blog for finding this. An unreleased song by Aimee Mann called “31 Today”. Funny video (Grace - I didn’t know you worked with Aimee Mann?)

July 10, 2007 - a music lover’s wet dream

In: Music

Very rarely will there be days like this. No fewer than 5 stellar new releases putting a drain on my wallet. Here they are in order of acquisition.

Interpol - Our Love to Admire (7/9/2007 11:51 PM) I had the foresight to pre-order this from iTunes. I’m not sure what I got [...]

Looks like alternative radio has finally returned to Philadelphia.  Radio 104.5 is playing what they call adult alternative. For those that have been here a few years, it’s a watered down Y100 (which was a watered down WDRE).  Anyway it’s nice that there is someone that will play bands like Interpol and Killers here in [...]

About this blog

Ostensibly A Rubber Door is about anything that's on my mind. Mostly that seems to be about politics, music, sports, and arguing with others about all of the above. I took the name of this blog from a Michael Penn song called Me Around. Check out Michael - he's about the best singer/songwriter there is.
