Top 10 favorite songs

In: Music

Back to music for a bit. I figured I would take a whack at putting together my top 10 favorite songs. Not an easy feat mind you but here are the rules - only one song per artist. Also, If I don’t listen to it anymore, it cannot be on this list. Here we go:

“Everybody [...]

Someone better frisk Kanye

In: Music

So Wednesday is the Grammys and Kanye West has said that he would be pissed if he didn’t win. Now honestly I don’t pay much attention to the Grammys since it happens to suck but reading Entertainment Weekly last week I discovered the album of the year nominees and now I know why Kanye [...]

Just finished reading Everything I’m Cracked Up to Be the new book by singer-guitarist Jen Trynin. Never heard of her, Jen Trynin was supposed to be the woman that brought attitude to womens rock. In the mid-90’s pre-Alanis, pre-Phair, pre-every other rock chick, there was a bidding war for Trynin.
Everything I’m Cracked Up [...]

New Music January 2006

In: Music

Been bad at this - didn’t really have a good new music list over the holidays while trying to figure out what were my top 2005 releases. OK - so 2006 is a new and Cat Power’s release is the first big release of the year (as far as I’m concerned). Here’s what [...]

Best Albums of 2005

In: Michael Penn, Music

What better reason to have a blog than to create 2005 Best of Lists? Note Coldplay’s X&Y is left off because they refuse to get better. It’s not that the CD isn’t a good CD – it is. It’s that there are too many bands doing what they do and doing it [...]

Fiona Apple in Philly (Tower Theater)

In: Music

Last week Friday I was luck to see Fiona Apple at the Tower Theater in Upper Darby. She ran through most if not all of the songs from Extraordinary Machine and When the Pawn… and the hits from her debut Tidal. I love the fact that there all these young people there [...]

About this blog

Ostensibly A Rubber Door is about anything that's on my mind. Mostly that seems to be about politics, music, sports, and arguing with others about all of the above. I took the name of this blog from a Michael Penn song called Me Around. Check out Michael - he's about the best singer/songwriter there is.
