I would have agreed with Steve's non-douche status even before, but now, he's a Non-douche God! Especially since I'm dealing with my own feral issue.

I wish I had enough extra $$$ to pay for spay/neuter of the mama cat & the kittens she birthed in our backyard, but I don't -- and so we'll have to resort to a shelter with fingers crossed that they will find a home. The no-kill shelters in my area are not accepting cats at this point, so I was told to call animal control (who will take them to the county shelter.)

This had been a tough thing for me as a cat lover...to choose between letting the cats stay free (and continue to reproduce and scrounge for food, but at least they are alive) or having them caught and possiby not adopted (living life in a shelter cage - or worse.) But as happy as those kittens seem right now, it would be most wrong to let the feral population continue to grow in our neighborhood.

So, what Steve and his wife are doing is a wonderful, wonderful thing.

Coincidently, we took Leo to Hickory Vet Hospital when he was a youngster (1994) and had a urinary tract blockage. They were great there - and he charmed them completely in the course of his overnight stay (I was so proud when his hospital report said he was a "very personable" cat.) And he started his life off as a stray, born under my grandparents shed.

I second the non-doucheiness of Steve. When I was working at CW Philly he came by to do some video blogs and I ran into him in the lobby and introduced myself, told him how much of a fan of the show I was. He was really nice, funny, and down to earth. I actually ended up taking him on a small tour of the station while looking for my coworker who was doing the shoot. Helluva nice guy.
