I will go on record as always disliking this show and I have never watched a full episode. Still I think I am a good judge of character and I can tell there is a total lack of it in all ends. I am absolutely disgusted with this show, the parents, the network – everyone involved.
The only purpose for this show at this stage is money. The parents can’t stand each other. Their families are beginning to turn on them. The children have to live their life on a stage. Yes, the only reasons for this show to go on is for Kate and TLC to make her money on the backs of their children.
An interesting thing about this whole thing is that even though it’s Jon that may have cheated, it’s Kate that seems to come out on the short end of public opinion. She’s comes off as an aggressively ambitious and pampered woman that has pimped out her family for money. I can not imagine what it would be like to married to her. Not that Jon is blameless in all this – he’s spineless shell of a man and just watches as his family is destroyed. Let’s not forget TLC – they had 8 million viewers this past week, their largest ever audience, to watch Jon & Kate squirm in front of them. It’s the same instinct that causes people to look at accidents on the side of the road.
Let me add to this that the Pennsylvania Department of Labor are stepping in response to a complaint about child labor. It’s about time someone with some common sense step in and do what’s right for the children. The children deserve some sanity.
The best thing that we can for them is not watch. It would take away some of the profit motive as well as affording them some dignity.
But as long as those children help puts the family in large house after large house I have to think there’ll be a network broadcasting them and people willing to watch.
I might have gone on the record as disliking this show from the start, except I had no earthly clue about this show until very recently. Now that I do have a clue, I dislike it in the most visceral way imaginable. While it may have had more noble beginnings, I can’t see any more value to it than that of a televised gaper’s delay.
And gaper’s delays are annoying enough already.

Even without those kids, it looks like Kate is trying to “branch out”. I think she will eventually get some show of her own.
Ultimately, it is the fault of the public for watching this show. If no one watched, the show would go off the air.
People love “cringe” media.

I’ve seen bits and pieces here and there. I always managed to tune in just as Kate was belittling Jon in one of the interview segments. Left a terrible taste in my mouth (and my brain). I have no sympathy, though, for either parent – adults who signed away their privacy and remaining sanity for cash and public scrutiny. Those kids lose out. TLC would never do this, as the show is an instant cash cow now, but they should let these people out of their contracts and try to salvage whatever’s left of their family life, together or separately.
It’s hard enough to be one child in a herd, I can say from experience. Navigating a challenging childhood surrounded by TV crews (and now, paparazzi) must suck. Admittedly, my parents didn’t produce their 9 children simultaneously, but still, on a single salary, my mom and dad managed to raise more kids than these guys have. And they had no TV contract, corporate sponsorship, or book deals.

@the fixer – My wife tells me that Kate is trying to get her own talk show. There was a time where you needed to be able to do more than talk.
Merujo – one of the things that bothers me most about her is how she treats her husband. Nothing excuses cheating, but she really makes it hard to side with her. Of course both Jon and Kate have options; the poor children do not, and that is the sad part of this whole story. You’re right – I wish TLC would do the right thing, but that wont happen unless the family implodes – and no one wants that to happen. But I’m sure there’ll be people watching if it does.
I think Americans need to be able to distinguish between ‘fame’ and ‘infamy’ when it comes to the people we choose to give the spotlight.
