@grace; @the other howard — Good points that it may be the landscape rather than the observer that’s changing. I am still turned off when I hear extreme-left-wing propaganda presented viciously, too, but there sure seems to be a heck of a lot more extreme-right-wing haranguing these days. Or at least it’s presented more annoyingly. All I really ask is for some good-natured, intelligent, calm and reasonable statements, and that seems to be what I’m receiving more from Senator Obama and his “side”.

Echoing both the post and Grace’s comment, I think it’s been the most extreme (and sadly, some of the most influential) voices in the Conservative movement that have helped turn me further away from many Republican candidates.

There seem to be many people who don’t feel like they’ve changed as much as the scenery has around them. Makes you wonder what it really means to be conservative. Or maybe not.

In the past 30 years, the country has moved to the right overall. So while I’ve been stationary, the political spectrum has heavily slid and scraped over my head until suddenly I looked up and I, too, was closer to the left than the center! Not to mention it gave me this incredible headache…
