Very rarely will there be days like this. No fewer than 5 stellar new releases putting a drain on my wallet. Here they are in order of acquisition.
Interpol - Our Love to Admire (7/9/2007 11:51 PM) I had the foresight to pre-order this from iTunes. I’m not sure what I got for my pre-order other than having it 9 minutes early but for a band that I expect to be one of the important acts from the U.S. in coming years - those are a precious 9 minutes.
Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (7/10/2007 8:09 A.M.) Praise to eMusic for having this one early on the day of release. Entertainment Weekly gave this an A+ this past weekend so I’ve been waiting something less than patiently.
Smashing Pumpkins - Zeitgeist (7/10/2007 11:26 A.M.) I revert back to 1997 and pick up the latest pumpkins release. Mind you I didn’t love the 1999 Pumpkins as much as say the 1996 Pumpkins but I’m an optimist.
Crowded House - Time on Earth (7/1/2007 11:26 and 7 seconds A.M.) I can’t believe I forgot this one was out today. This is me reverting back to my 1992 self because that’s when I became a big CH fan. I’ve followed them and Neil Finn ever since, so this was an automatic. Thank Best Buy for having this on an end-cap.
Mark Ronson - Version (estimated pick-up: 7/11/2007 6:30 P.M.) - I looked in vain at Best Buy for this but to no avail. Tomorrow I’ll get it at Main Street Music in Manayunk [Update: looks like iTunes added this late - update acquisition time to 7:30 PM or so). Another Entertainment Weekly pick of the week - Ronson specializes in doing really cool whacked out covers. I think his cover of Radiohead’s “Just” is better than the original. Sacrilege I know - listen to it though. On this CD he works with artists such as Amy Winehouse.
I’m cut off after tomorrow. Kristen is taking my debit card. (Of course I still have 65 downloads remaining at eMusic).
Sphere: Related ContentOstensibly A Rubber Door is about anything that's on my mind. Mostly that seems to be about politics, music, sports, and arguing with others about all of the above. I took the name of this blog from a Michael Penn song called Me Around. Check out Michael - he's about the best singer/songwriter there is.

I love any and all Smashing Pumpkins. I am ECSTATIC about this new album. I couldn’t get it today, as much as it broke mah heart, because driving to the store would cost me like $10 in gas and I’m uber poor right now. Tomorrow, though, IT WILL BE MINE! I’ll probably get Interpol, too.

It’s killing me to have to wait until next payday to buy the Crowded House CD. Soon, soon… alas, I did not win free tix to their NYC gig.
I repeat my mantra: Neil Finn is a god.
