The 2006 elections were as good for Democrats as the 2004 elections were bad. I have never had as good a news day as this one, from the minute I awoke until now - it just keeps getting better.

  • I went to bed with the Dems picking up at least the 15 seats they needed. By this morning that had swelled to 28 seats. That’s called an ole fashioned ass whupping.
  • When I went to bed it seemed as Democratic control of Senate was a pipe dream. Whatever a pipe dream is - I now have it; at least assuming Virginia holds firm. I never thought that this could happen - this is the best day ever. What else could happen?
  • Ballot initiatives that failed - gay marriage in Arizona and the abortion ban in South Dakota. The religious right is crying and rethinking their existence. They threw down the gauntlet - the voters shit in it and threw it out. So it doesn’t get any better right?
  • Donald Rumsfeld is kicked to the proverbial curb. George Bush needs a olive branch - thought Rumsfeld sounded Italian, so Dubya offered him up.

So what else can happen?  Will Cheney come out of the closet?  Karl Rove gets arrested with dozens of unprescribed Vicodin in his possession?

Tell you what - winning feels good.  Winning is nice.  But now the hard work is upon us - cleaning up the mess of Congress that Delay, Hastert, and their kind have made of it requires everyone’s involvement.  If you don’t know your Congressman or Senator - find out who they are, and call them.  email them.

Let them know that you expect more out of them.
